This song is about my friend Ryan Hood who passed away on May 23, 2017.
Ryan and I met at boarding school where we both studied classical piano. We immediately became friends due to our shared class schedule and contrarian nature which often clashed with the school we attended. Ryan was extremely talented in regards to music and academia. He had perfect pitch and knew more about hip-hop than anyone I have ever met.

One of my favorite memories of him is when I tested his perfect pitch by laying my hands flat across a piano playing over ten random keys at a time, while he, with his back turned to me called back every single note I played. To me it was magic.

He also introduced me to countless artists, movements, and recording techniques that I still follow to this day. At the time of his passing, we were working on a musical project we had talked about calling Animal Hospital, so I decided to name this song after that project which never fully came to fruition.

Before writing the lyrics for this song, I asked my friend Charles Johnson, who was also very close with Ryan, to send me some words that came to mind when thinking of Ryan. He sent me a page of stories, words, and feelings that came to mind while thinking of Ryan which I used as inspiration for the first verse of this song.

All proceeds for this track will be given to Ryan's parents, Charles and Anita Hood who will redirect the funds to foundations and charities in the Columbia, SC area such as the Ryan Hood Memorial Musician Fund and Harvest Hope Food Bank.
